Manchester United will reportedly hold discussions with Aston Villa regarding potentially cutting short the loan stint of Marcus Rashford.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in cutting short Marcus Rashford's loan spell at Aston Villa.

Having failed to make an impression under Ruben Amorim, Rashford was allowed to make the temporary switch to the West Midlands during the winter transfer window.

Despite Villa's exits from the Champions League and FA Cup at the quarter-final and semi-final stage respectively, the agreement has proven to be a success.

With four goals and six assists from his 17 appearances in all competitions, the England international could now make the £40m switch to Villa Park.

However, according to The Sun, there is seemingly the potential for Rashford to make a surprise return to Old Trafford, at least in the short term.

Rashford talks to be held

The report alleges that the severity of Rashford's hamstring injury - picked up in training last week - could see him miss the rest of the season.

As a result of Villa playing Man United on the final day of the Premier League campaign, Rashford must recover by the weekend of May 17/18 to play any further part in Villa's season.

Courtesy of the general consensus currently being that he will not be available for that particular date with Tottenham Hotspur, United have seemingly expressed an interest in bringing Rashford back to their Carrington training facilities.

If the length of his recovery from his injury setback is confirmed, the 27-year-old could go through his rehabilitation at United.

Would that hinder Villa's efforts to sign Rashford?

With there already being a £40m buy clause available to Villa, it would be viewed largely irrelevant if Rashford has to spend a number of weeks back at United.

Unai Emery has seen enough during the attacker's spell at the club, and chosen him ahead of Ollie Watkins on enough occasions, to highlight that he has welcomed his presence in his team.

From United's perspective, they want to give themselves the best chance possible of facilitating Rashford's sale in the summer and seemingly want control over his recovery.

The report adds that Rashford is yet to decide where he sees his long-term future.
