Preview: Wycombe Wanderers vs. Bolton Wanderers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Wycombe Wanderers and Bolton Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wycombe Wanderers will attempt to extend their unbeaten run to four competitive matches when they face Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday.

The visitors, meanwhile, will have the chance to claim a second straight victory after beating Northampton Town at the weekend.

Having collected 20 points from their 12 league matches, Wycombe head into Tuesday's contest in eighth position and two points adrift of the playoffs.

Since losing to Portsmouth earlier this month, the Chairboys have put together a three-game unbeaten run, which began with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Fleetwood Town, before they edged out Stevenage in the EFL trophy.

Wycombe managed to avoid defeat in Saturday's away meeting with Peterborough United despite trailing at the break.

Brandon Hanlan opened the scoring, before goals from Joel Randall and Ephron Mason-Clark turned the contest in Peterborough's favour, but the latter scored an own goal just after the hour mark to ensure that the contest finished as a 2-2 draw.

After playing four competitive away games in a row, Wycombe will be grateful to return to Adams Park, where they are unbeaten in four league games (W3, D1).

Bolton, meanwhile, are three points better off than their hosts, ensuring that they enter the midweek encounter in fourth position.

After their three-game winning run was brought to an end by Carlisle United, the Trotters managed to produce a positive response in Saturday's home clash with Northampton Town.

Dion Charles netted his eighth league goal of the season to give Bolton an early lead, before Randell Williams doubled the advantage in the 16th minute, and while Sam Hoskins pulled a goal back in the second period, the Trotters saw out the remainder of the contest to secure a narrow 2-1 victory.

Ian Evatt's side will now turn their attention to Tuesday's away trip, and they have fared reasonably well on the road this season, losing just one of their four away matches (W2, D1).

However, picking up a positive result may be easier said than done, as Bolton have lost all of their previous three competitive away meetings with Wycombe.

Team News

Wycombe are still expected to be without the services of Kane Vincent-Young, Jack Grimmer, Joe Jacobson and Jason McCarthy.

David Wheeler will feature on the bench once again after he returned from injury to appear as a late substitute against Peterborough.

Hanlan, who will continue to lead the line for the Trotters, will be looking to add to his two-goal tally for the season.

As for the Cod Army, midfielder Kyle Dempsey is set to miss the next three to four weeks of action because of a back problem.

Dempsey is joined on the absentee list by Carlos Mendes Gomes, while Zac Ashworth is a doubt after he missed the win over Northampton with a knock.

After dropping to the bench at the weekend, Jack Iredale could return to the Bolton backline for Tuesday's contest.

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Stryjek; Forino-Joseph, Low, Leahy; Pattenden, Scowen, Potts, Boyce; Phillips, Taylor, Hanlan

Bolton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Baxter; Santos, Toal, Iredale; Cogley, Sheehan, Thomason, Morley, Williams; Charles, Adeboyejo

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 1-1 Bolton Wanderers

Having won three of their last four league games, Bolton will be targeting all three points on Tuesday, but we think that they will be held to a draw by a Wycombe side that are unbeaten in four home matches in League One.
