Liverpool are reportedly preparing to use Darwin Nunez as part of a deal to bring Atletico Madrid man Julian Alvarez to Anfield this summer.

Liverpool are reportedly interested in Atletico Madrid attacker Julian Alvarez ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old is enjoying his time in Spain, recently explaining how Tottenham Hotspur defender and compatriot Cristian Romero should secure a La Liga switch.

Alvarez has played 51 competitive matches for Diego Simeone's men so far during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring a staggering 27 goals and providing five assists.

Atletico are on course for a spot in the Champions League next campaign via their league finish, with the Argentine netting 15 times across 34 top-flight appearances.

Currently occupying third spot in the La Liga standings, Simeone's trops face Real Sociedad, Osasuna and Girona before the Club World Cup in June.

Liverpool to use Nunez as part of Alvarez deal?

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alvarez could be returning to the riches of the Premier League just 12 months after leaving Manchester City.

The report claims that Liverpool are targeting the addition of the 25-year-old into Arne Slot's squad ahead of the 2025-26 campaign in England.

It is understood that the Reds have made Alvarez a top target ahead of the trading point, with the Premier League champions willing to offload key players in order to sign the Argentine.

Darwin Nunez could supposedly be used as a 'bargaining chip' in negotiations with Atletico Madrid for Alvarez, who has won the English title twice with the Citizens in 2023 and 2024.

Whilst Atletico boss Simeone wants to retain the services of the attacker, the club's hierarchy realise that the sale of the player could help raise funds to strengthen other parts of the team.

Liverpool's current attack

During the 2024-25 campaign, Slot has enjoyed the luxury of having two top-class players for every position across his forward line as they gunned for the Premier League title.

Leading marksman Mohamed Salah was set to leave at the expiration of his contract this summer, however the Egyptian King has since signed a two-year extension.

There are more question marks around the Anfield futures of Nunez and fellow South American Luis Diaz, though, who have both been linked with switches away.
