England suffer a heavy 52-21 defeat to the Barbarians in Sunday's international fixture at Twickenham.

England's preparations for the upcoming tour of Australia have suffered a setback with a 52-21 defeat at the hands of the Barbarians.

Eddie Jones's side are due to feature in the first of their three-Test series as soon as July 2, and they will need to perform better to enjoy success Down Under.

Not only did the away side run in eight tries at Twickenham, they played the second half at a player disadvantage due to the dismissal of Will Skelton.

The afternoon had started brightly for England, who led through a penalty at the 16-minute mark, but it was all Barbarians for much of the contest from then onwards.

As well as a penalty try, Charles Ollivon and Damian Penaud both went over, but England found themselves just 19-11 at the break with one more player at their disposal.

Up until the hour mark, England remained in the game, tries from Barbarians duo Baptiste Couilloud and Penaud being cancelled out by Jonny May and Marcus Smith.

However, the closing quarter was dominated by the Barbarians, Louis Carbonel, Max Spring and Antoine Hastoy all running in tries of their own to secure a deserved win.

In total, Barbarians won the second half by a 33-10 scoreline with 14 players, an obvious cause for concern for Jones ahead of one of the most anticipated tours on their calendar.
