Preview: Swansea City vs. Sheffield United - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Swansea City and Sheffield United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Sheffield United will be bidding to make it three straight wins in the Championship when they continue their campaign with a contest against Swansea City in Wales on Tuesday night.

The Blades are currently second in the Championship table, boasting 55 points from their opening 27 matches of the campaign, while Swansea are 13th, seven points off the playoff spots in England's second tier.

Swansea will enter Tuesday's contest off the back of a 3-0 loss to Cardiff City in the South Wales derby, with the result leaving them in 13th spot in the table, boasting 34 points from 27 matches.

Luke Williams's side are seven points off the playoff spots, and they will now be bidding to bounce back from their weekend disappoint when Sheffield United make the trip to Wales for what is shaping up to be an intriguing contest.

Swansea have only lost three of their 13 home Championship fixtures this term, picking up 20 points in the process, but they will be welcoming a Sheffield United side that have the second-best away record in the second tier.

The Swans finished 14th in the Championship last term, so there is plenty of room for improvement this season, but it will be a tough ask for them to make the playoffs considering the strength of the teams above them.

Swansea have actually lost each of their last four matches with Sheffield United, but it was a close affair earlier this season, with the Blades recording a 1-0 victory at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, were 2-0 winners over Norwich City on Saturday, with Harrison Burrows netting a brace from left-back, and the result moved the Blades into second spot in the Championship table.

Chris Wilder's side have won 17, drawn six and lost four of their 27 league matches this season to collect 55 points, which has left them in second spot in the division, one point behind the leaders Leeds United.

Sheffield United are 14 points ahead of seventh-placed Middlesbrough, meanwhile, so it is very difficult to imagine them dropping out of the promotion picture altogether, but their eyes will be firmly on the top two.

The Blades were relegated from the Premier League last season in 20th, so they are targeting an immediate return, and the squad certainly looks strong enough to be one of the top two sides at the end of the campaign.

Sheffield United are unbeaten in their last five matches with Swansea, all of which took place in the Championship, with their last loss in this fixture coming back in January 2019.

Team News

Swansea did not suffer any fresh fitness problems in their clash with Cardiff on Saturday, but Kristian Pedersen and Oliver Cooper will once again be unavailable for selection due to injury problems.

Head coach Williams is expected to resist the temptation to shuffle his pack, but there is expected to be a change in a wide area, with Florian Bianchini battling to be introduced into the XI.

Liam Cullen has scored eight times in the Championship this season, and he will again lead the line.

As for Sheffield United, Kieffer Moore, Ollie Arblaster, Sai Sachdev and Harry Souttar remain on the sidelines through injury, but the Blades are otherwise in strong shape for the fixture.

Gustavo Hamer has scored six times in the Championship this season and is once again expected to be joined in a forward area by Rhian Brewster, who only has one Championship goal to his name this term.

Providing that no late injuries are reported, there is every chance that Wilder could name an unchanged side here, including Alfie Gilchrist, although Tyrese Campbell will be in the manager's thinking when it comes to potential changes.

Swansea City possible starting lineup:
Vigouroux; Key, Cabango, Darling, Tyson; Franco, Grimes, Allen; Ronald, Cullen, Bianchini

Sheffield United possible starting lineup:
Cooper; Gilchrist, Ahmedhodzic, Robinson, Burrows; O'Hare, Peck, Davies, McCallum; Hamer, Brewster

We say: Swansea City 0-2 Sheffield United

Swansea will be determined to give their fans something to cheer after the defeat to Cardiff, but it is tough to imagine the hosts bouncing back here. Sheffield United have 25 points to show from their 14 away matches in the Championship this season, and we are expecting them to navigate their way to a win in this contest.
