Sheffield Wednesday occupy 13th place in the Championship table after winning 15, drawing 11 and losing 18 of their 44 league matches this term.
The Owls will comfortably surpass last season's 20th-placed finish, although they will still be keen to sneak into the top half of the table in their final two outings against Portsmouth and Watford.
Danny Rohl's side will head into those matches with a renewed sense of belief after they ended a six-game winless run with a narrow 2-1 win over playoff-chasing Middlesbrough on Monday.
Josh Windass scored in the opening stages of the second period to cancel out Finn Azaz's early opener, before substitute Anthony Musaba netted an 89th-minute winner to secure Sheffield Wednesday's first win since March 11.
The result also represented the club's first Championship home win since they beat Derby County 4-2 back on New Year's Day.
After ending their eight-game winless home league run, the Owls may fancy their chances of claiming back-to-back victories at Hillsbrough, given the fact that they have won four of their previous six meetings with Portsmouth (D2), including a narrow 2-1 victory in October's reverse fixture.

Portsmouth no longer have any pressure on their shoulders after they guaranteed safety with back-to-back victories in their Easter weekend fixtures.
Colby Bishop netted a hat-trick in a statement 5-3 away win over Norwich City, before he scored the only goal in Monday's home clash against 10-man Watford, moving Portsmouth up to 16th place and onto 52 points from 44 matches.
Portsmouth have ultimately achieved their main objective of avoiding an immediate return to League One, but they will still want to finish off with a couple of positive results in their first Championship campaign since 2011-12.
While they may have beaten Norwich on their last road trip, Portsmouth will head to Yorkshire with the league's second-worst defensive record after winning three, drawing four and losing 15 of their 22 away league matches.
In fact, the South-coast side have let in more away goals than any other team in the division, having shipped 49 of their 69 goals conceded on the road this season.
They will try to remain resolute in defence on Saturday, as they go in search of their first win over Sheffield Wednesday since claiming a 3-1 away victory in November 2002.

We say: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Portsmouth
Portsmouth have struggled in recent meetings with Sheffield Wednesday, but after collecting seven points from their last three matches, we think that they will do enough to hold the Owls to a draw in their penultimate game of the season.
