Leicester City are reportedly considering a swoop for former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas to replace head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Leicester City have reportedly earmarked former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas as a potential new head coach.

The Foxes suffered their latest defeat at the King Power Stadium versus Arne Slot's Liverpool on Sunday, when Trent Alexander-Arnold netted the only goal of the contest.

As a result, Leicester are now unable to escape the bottom three of the league standings, meaning that Championship football is confirmed for next season.

The Foxes enjoyed a marvellous spell in the second tier during the 2023-24 campaign, winning the title under the tutelage of Italian Enzo Maresca.

However, the wheels soon fell off Leicester's survival charge, with Maresca leaving the club to take up the vacant role at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea boss.

Leicester want Fabregas as Championship boss?

According to The Telegraph, newly-relegated Leicester could bring a high-profile name to their managerial hotseat in the Championship over the summer.

The report claims that the Foxes are interested in the possibility of securing the services of Fabregas, who is currently head coach of Como in Italy.

It is understood that the former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder has impressed Leicester's hierarchy with his management in Serie A this season.

As well as the 37-year-old, the East Midlands outfit have also supposedly shortlisted two names with greater experience of first-team coaching.

Some members of Leicester's board are keen to interview ex-Southampton man Russell Martin and Sheffield Wednesday's Danny Rohl ahead of the new season.

Will Van Nistelrooy stay at Leicester?

Losing 10 of his last 11 Premier League games in charge of Leicester, it is hard to imagine Van Nistelrooy managing at the King Power come the start of the Championship term in August.

Performances have arguably declined under the Dutchman since December, when Steve Cooper was relieved of his duties at the one-time English champions.

The rumour mill has begun to turn quite vigorously, with Van Nistelrooy set for crunch talks with his employers during the next few days regarding his future.
