Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to sack Ange Postecoglou at the end of the season even if he lifts the Europa League trophy in Bilbao next month.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly expected to part ways with Ange Postecoglou at the end of the season, even if he leads the club to Europa League glory.

Postecoglou is at risk of overseeing Tottenham's worst-ever Premier League finish, with his team languishing in 16th place after mustering just 37 points from 33 league matches.

That is one place lower than their previous worst finishing position in 1993-94 when they ended the Premier League campaign in 15th spot.

Spurs have lost four of their previous five top-flight matches, including a narrow 2-1 defeat in Sunday's home clash with Nottingham Forest.

As a result of their disappointing league campaign, Spurs are left with the Europa League as their only route to secure European football for next season.

Spurs make Postecoglou sack decision

Postecoglou has guided the club to the semi-final stage where they will face Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt for the right to meet Athletic Bilbao or Manchester United in the final.

With Spurs targeting European glory, Postecoglou could still end the season by becoming the first Tottenham manager to win a trophy since Juande Ramos won the EFL Cup in 2008.

However, according to The Telegraph, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will dismiss Postecoglou irrespective of whether he wins the Europa League.

The report claims that Spurs could sack the Australian or give him the opportunity to mutually agree to part ways at the end of the season.

Postecoglou could depart on a high note if he secures Champions League qualification by guiding Tottenham to their first European trophy since 1984.

Postecoglou to lose key ally

Postecoglou's hopes of keeping his job are set to be dented by the departure of one of his key allies in the Tottenham hierarchy.

Chief football officer Scott Munn is understood to be one of Postecoglou's biggest supporters at the club, but he is expected to leave his role this summer following the recent appointment of Vinai Venkatesham as Tottenham's new chief executive.

Venkatesham has made the somewhat controversial decision to swap North London clubs after he left his role as Arsenal CEO last summer.

Amid the uncertainty surrounding his future, Postecoglou will be focused on preparing his team for Sunday's Premier League meeting with leaders Liverpool.
