Aston Villa will be bidding to end a 94-year streak and set a new club record when they face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Aston Villa could end a 94-year streak and set a new club record when they face Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The West Midlands outfit make the trip to Old Trafford knowing that victory could lead to Champions League qualification through a top-five finish in the Premier League table.

Unai Emery's side are currently one of the form teams in the division and are the favourites to overcome opponents who lost to Tottenham Hotspur in Wednesday's Europa League final.

That is despite this fixture being one of the most one-sided contests in the history of the Premier League, United having prevailed on an incredible 40 occasions.

Nevertheless, that is a rare factor in United's favour ahead of welcoming Villa to the Theatre of Dreams this weekend.

What streaks, records are on the line?

Villa have already accumulated 19 Premier League victories this season and can post 20 wins in the competition for the second successive season.

That would represent the first time that they have achieve that feat in the top flight for 94 years, while victory would also see Villa post a club-record 69 points in the Premier League.

Emery has already overseen a club-record 32 wins as a top-flight club in all competitions during a single season, helped by their efforts in the Champions League and FA Cup.

Furthermore, Ollie Watkins is looking to score against Man United for the first time in his career. They are the only current Premier League team who he has failed to net against.

His side will travel to Old Trafford having only won twice in their last 39 competitive games at this stadium, both by 1-0 scorelines in 2009 and 2021 respectively.

United bidding to end season on a high

As for United, speculation will persist regarding Ruben Amorim's future regardless of whether the Red Devils end 2024-25 with a win.

United are currently on an eight-match streak without success in the Premier League and are bidding to avoid suffering four successive defeats in the top flight for the first time since 1979.

Already on 18 defeats from 37 league games, United are at risk of losing half of their matches in a single top-flight campaign for the first time since 1930-31.

Amorim will hope that history remains in his side's favour in terms of final matches of the season. United have only lost four of 32 such games on the final weekend of a Premier League campaign.
