Manchester City allegedly make 'initial contact' with the representatives of a Galatasaray midfielder who has previously spent two seasons in the Championship.

Manchester City are reportedly contemplating whether to make a surprise approach for a player who has previously starred in the Championship.

Pep Guardiola and his squad are attempting to end a disappointing season on a high by finishing in the top five of the Premier League table and winning the FA Cup.

However, a certain level of focus is already being turned to the transfer market with a transitional period to be stepped up during the summer.

Despite already signing four players for fees totalling in the region of £180m in the winter, more additions will follow as Guardiola attempts to lower the age of his squad.

Nevertheless, as per Foot Mercato, consideration is being given to trying to sign a player that currently plies his trade for Galatasaray.

Sara a top target?

The report alleges that Gabriel Sara - formerly of Norwich City - is reportedly viewed as one of the club's top targets ahead of the market reopening in June.

Last year, the Turkish giants committed to signing the Brazilian from the Canaries in a deal that could eventually reach €20.5m (£17.4m).

Sara has since made 34 starts and two substitute outings in Super Lig and Europa League fixtures, chipping in with two goals and seven assists.

That has backed up his outstanding numbers during his two-year stint with Norwich where he contributed 20 goals and 16 assists from 86 appearances in the Championship.

While his only top-flight experiences have come in Brazil and Turkey, it appears that he may be provided with the opportunity to move to the Premier League.

Will Man City get a deal over the line?

With Sara holding a contract until 2029, Galatasaray are in a strong position to demand well in excess of the figure that they shelled out for Sara.

Although City remain in a strong financial position, they will want to part ways with at least one midfielder in order to facilitate the arrival of Sara or another fresh face.

Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva may depart the Etihad Stadium in the summer, the former having been linked with a move to Galatasaray.

While any deals would be separate, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Sara and Gundogan could trade places at their respective clubs.
