Wolves transfer news: Argentine starlet valued at £8m 'attracting interest' ahead of summer

Wolverhampton Wanderers are allegedly contemplating whether to make an approach for an £8m-rated Argentine starlet later in 2025.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly identified an Argentine starlet as another possible addition from the South American market.

Despite being regarded as no more than a mid-table club in the Premier League, the West Midlands outfit have successfully attracted talent from several South American nations to Molineux in recent years.

The majority come from Portuguese-speaking Brazil with internationals Andre, Joao Gomes and Matheus Cunha, as well as youngster Pedro Lima, all at the club.

Paraguayan winger Enso Gonzalez may also eventually come back into the fold, and it appears that club officials are continuing to place plenty of attention of acquiring more players from that part of the world.

According to journalist Martin Etcheverry, who was commenting on X, Wolves are preparing to make a formal offer for Velez Sarsfield defender Thiago Silvero.

How much are Wolves willing to pay?

The Argentina Under-20 international has made a total of six senior appearances, as well as 25 coming for the second-string team.

Most notably, and recently, Silvero made his first-ever start for Velez in a 4-1 defeat away at River Plate, being deployed at right-back and featuring for the 90 minutes.

He also recently came on at the end of a Copa Libertadores fixture, emphasising that Velez currently have high hopes for his progression in the first team.

Etcheverry suggests that Wolves officials were happy with Silvero's performance versus River Plate and are prepared to pay £3m to push through a deal.

However, it is claimed that the player's release clause stands at £8m and negotiations will be required to complete a transfer. Silvero's contract runs until December 2026.

Who would Silvero replace?

Nelson Semedo is the undisputed first-choice pick at right wing-back for Wolves with teenager Lima viewed as his future successor.

As it stands, it remains to be seen whether Semedo will extend his contract past the end of this campaign, while Lima has only racked up 225 minutes of senior football for Wolves at this stage.

Where Silvero would fit in is unclear. Wolves would not go into the 2025-26 Premier League campaign with two unproven South American right-backs as their options at wing-back.

Wolves could plausibly look to agree a deal for Silvero and allow him to spend the rest of the campaign at Velez, although it is questionable whether his current club would hand him so many opportunities if he is not viewed as a long-term option.
