Nicolas Dominguez cancels out an opener from Christian Norgaard as Nottingham Forest draw 1-1 with Brentford in the Premier League.

Nicolas Dominguez cancelled out an opener from Christian Norgaard as 10-man Nottingham Forest came from behind to draw 1-1 with Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Norgaard's header broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, shortly after Moussa Niakhate was sent off for the hosts, but Dominguez struck his first Forest goal seven minutes later.

Steve Cooper's side have moved into 11th position in the table, boasting eight points from their first seven matches, while Brentford sit 13th, having picked up seven points from their first seven games.

Forest thought that they had taken the lead in the eighth minute of the contest, with Taiwo Awoniyi turning home from close range, but the offside flag was immediately raised and VAR, which has been in the spotlight this weekend, then confirmed the decision after a relatively short check.

Brentford were struggling to get going at the City Ground, with Forest dominating the ball, and the hosts had another opportunity in the 23rd minute when Awoniyi picked out Anthony Elanga, but the ex-Manchester United youngster just missed the post with his low drive.

Serge Aurier was the next Forest player to find himself in the Brentford box in the 26th minute, but he just took a heavy touch and the ball bounced behind, with the score remaining goalless.

Murillo was impressing at the heart of the Forest defence, making a couple of excellent clearances in the latter stages of the first period, as Brentford just started to feel their way into the contest.

Kristoffer Ajer sent a near-post header wide of the Forest goal, before Brentford came close to taking the lead in the final stages of the first half, with Matt Turner brilliantly keeping out Vitaly Janelt's deflected effort before the ball was bundled narrowly wide of the home side's goal by Yoane Wissa.

Brentford also had a shout for a penalty when Janelt challenged Dominguez, who had his arm above his head, but the play was allowed to continue.

The visitors came close to making the breakthrough in the 52nd minute when Wissa beat Forest goalkeeper Turner to the ball inside the penalty box and turned it towards goal, but Willy Boly was on hand to make the clearance.

Forest were reduced to 10 men in the 57th minute when Niakhate picked up a second yellow card for catching the back of Wissa's leg with a poor challenge.

Brentford then took the lead from the resulting free kick, with Norgaard heading a brilliant delivery from Mathias Jensen into the back of the net from close range; there was a long check for a possible offside before it was confirmed that the visitors had made the breakthrough.

Forest managed to level the scores in the 65th minute, though, with Dominguez's excellent looping header finding a route into the top corner over the head of Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

Turner did well to keep out an effort from Neal Maupay in the 87th minute, before Morgan Gibbs-White did brilliantly to deny Bryan Mbeumo a shooting chance late on.

There were 13 additional minutes at the City Ground, and Chris Wood had the chance to win it in the 96th minute, but he headed over from close range.

Brentford then twice came close, with Murillo somehow clearing a strike from Michael Olakigbe off the line before Norgaard just missed the post with a curling strike.

Boly then flashed a header wide in the final exchanges, which were chaotic, but the referee's whistle ultimately blew with the two teams level at 1-1.
