Nottingham Forest confirm the signing of midfielder Nicolas Dominguez from Bologna on a five-year contract.

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of midfielder Nicolas Dominguez from Bologna on a five-year contract.

Dominguez's arrival at the club on a long-term deal is a straight swap for Switzerland international Remo Freuler, who has moved in the opposite direction to the Italian side.

The 25-year-old made the move to Bologna from Velez Sarsfield in the summer of 2019, and he represented the Italian side on 112 occasions, scoring five goals and contributing six assists in the process.

Dominguez has also been capped on 11 occasions by Argentina, scoring once in the process.

"It feels amazing to join a club with so much history in England and the Premier League," Dominguez told the English club's official website.

"I watched the game Forest played against Sheffield United, I saw the fans in the stadium and it attracted me. I'm over the moon and keen to embrace this challenge."

Meanwhile, Forest Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson added: "Nicolas showed a real desire to join Nottingham Forest, amongst the many options that he had.

"He joins having amassed some excellent experience in Argentina and Italy and we are pleased to see him join today."

Forest have now made eight signings during the summer market, also adding Ola Aina, Anthony Elanga, Matt Turner, Gonzalo Montiel, Andrey Santos, Murillo and Nuno Tavares.

Dominguez, who will wear the number 16 shirt for his new club, could potentially be in line to make his debut in Saturday's Premier League clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Steve Cooper's side have only won one of their three Premier League matches this season, but their two defeats have been narrow ones on the road against Arsenal and Manchester United.

Forest, who are allegedly close to selling Brennan Johnson to Tottenham Hotspur, were also knocked out of the EFL Cup by Burnley earlier this week, suffering a 1-0 home loss to their fellow Premier League club.
