Manchester United confirm the departure of full-back Tyrell Malacia, who joins PSV Eindhoven on loan until the end of the season.

Manchester United have announced that Tyrell Malacia has joined Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven on loan for the remainder of the season.

Malacia has struggled to force his way into Ruben Amorim's plans since he returned from a long injury layoff in November.

The Dutchman has had to settle for just five starts in nine competitive matches, with just three of those appearances coming in the Premier League.

Malacia was set to fall further down the pecking order following the arrival of Danish full-back Patrick Dorgu from Serie A side Lecce.

Having struggled for game time at Old Trafford, Malacia was believed to be closing in on a move to Benfica before the proposed loan switch fell through.

Benfica's disappointment has proven to be PSV's gain, as it soon emerged that the Eredivisie side were in pole position to secure Malacia's services.

Man United have now confirmed that Malacia has joined PSV on loan for the rest of the season despite the fact that the English transfer deadline passed on Monday.

However, the Dutch transfer window closed a day later on Tuesday, providing the time for Malacia to make the move official.

Although Malacia has moved on an initial loan deal, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that PSV have the option to make the move permanent for €10m (£8.3m) at the end of the season.

Man United have included a 30% sell-on clause in the deal, while PSV will cover all of Malacia's wages during his loan spell.

Malacia's first words following PSV loan switch

Following his arrival at Philips Stadion, Malacia swiftly outlined his ambition to win silverware in his time with Peter Bosz's side.

"I am happy to be here," Malacia told the PSV website. "Finally playing football again. I am coming back from a long injury, but I am now fit and know that my time will come again.

"In every difficult period there are also positive elements and in this case that is that I have become much stronger physically and mentally.

'I have more patience, am more mature, know my body better and things like that. I am ready to go and hopefully win several prizes with PSV."

Malacia has joined a club that are sitting top of the Eredivisie table and are set to face Juventus in the Champions League knockout playoff round.
