Liverpool "legend" Mohamed Salah is up there with Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard as one of the Reds' greatest ever players, Jermaine Pennant tells Sports Mole.

Ex-Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant believes that Mohamed Salah is easily one of the Reds' greatest players of all time after his latest landmark achievement.

The 32-year-old registered his 19th Premier League goal of the season in Saturday's 4-1 win over Ipswich Town, which also saw him surpass Arsenal great Thierry Henry in the competition's all-time charts.

Salah's strike also marked his 100th Anfield goal for Liverpool in the Premier League, and the Egyptian is leading the race for this season's Golden Boot and Playmaker Award, having also provided an unrivalled 13 assists in the top flight.

Salah's extraordinary feats have come even with the backdrop of his uncertain contract situation, and speaking exclusively to Sports Mole, Pennant had no doubts that the former Chelsea man is in Liverpool's GOAT conversation.

"100 per cent," Pennant said. "How is he not? You look at his stats, you look at his figures, you look at his goal ratios. Sometimes he might not have the best of games, but he will come off that pitch scoring two goals. That's a sign of a great player.

"The numbers that he's put up there are nothing but absolutely amazing. He's broke so many records. He's [surpassed] Thierry Henry, who people class as one of the best players in the Premier League ever. So he is already a club legend.

"Since he joined Liverpool, he's just been at the top of all the goalscoring accolades. So for me, I'm sure all Liverpool fans see Mo Salah as a Liverpool great, along with Dalglish, along with Steven Gerrard."

Comparing Salah, Gerrard and Dalglish's Liverpool records

While a direct comparison between all three esteemed players might not be completely fair - especially in Gerrard's case given that the Englishman played in midfield - the numbers make for some fascinating reading.

From 381 appearances in a Liverpool jersey, Salah has contributed 234 goals (0.61 per game) and 105 assists (0.28 per game), sitting fourth in the Reds' all-time scoring column below Ian Rush, Gordon Hodgson and Roger Hunt.

Gerrard's 186 strikes from 710 appearances (0.26 per match) puts him sixth in Liverpool's goalscoring list, and his 155 assists averages out to 0.22 per match, still slightly below Salah's mean.

However, Dalglish trumps both on the creativity front, setting up 186 goals in 511 appearances for an average of 0.36 per game, and the scintillating Scotsman intriguing assisted more goals than he scored.

Dalglish ended his Liverpool career with 172 efforts - almost one goal every three matches - and he incredibly set up at least 15 goals in five straight First Division seasons from 1978 to 1983.

Should Salah continue performing in the same vein, though, he would end the Premier League season with an outrageous 32 goals and 22 assists. That would represent a new competition record for the most goal involvements in a single campaign, only elevating his 'GOAT' status further.

Jermaine Pennant was speaking to Sports Mole on behalf of William Hill.
