Championship club Swansea City announce that they have parted ways with head coach Luke Williams.

Swansea City have announced that they have sacked head coach Luke Williams.

There was a time earlier in the season when the Welsh outfit had established themselves as fringe contenders for the Championship playoffs.

However, Williams's time at the club has since turned sour, not helped by the 44-year-old hinting that he held an interest in taking charge of West Bromwich Albion.

Since the turn of the year, Swansea have lost eight of their 10 games in all competitions, their only win during that time coming against Bristol City on February 9.

Despite that recent success, two further defeats have led to the club's hierarchy deciding to part ways with their first-team boss.

"A change is required"

Speaking to the club's official website, chairman Andy Coleman said: "This was a difficult decision and one that has not been taken lightly. Luke has led the club through some challenging periods and we appreciate his hard work.

"I am aware of the effort he and his staff have put in throughout the last 13 months for Swansea City. I want to personally thank Luke, Ryan (Harley) and George (Lawtey) for their dedication and the sacrifices they have made on behalf of the club.

"Unfortunately, since the turn of the year our performances and results have not been of the standard required at this level.

"Ultimately, that has led us to conclude a change is required in order to bring about an improvement in our showings on the pitch."

The right decision?

Williams leaves Swansea after only 58 matches in charge, winning just 19 times and losing 28 of his fixtures in all competitions.

As well as the frustration over the team's performances and Williams's stay in the dugout in general, Swansea have also scored just 34 goals in 33 games in this season's Championship.

Although Swansea remain eight points clear of the relegation zone, there is an argument that parting ways now is the right time for all concerned.
