Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott reportedly emerges as a potential transfer target for clubs in the Premier League and Bundesliga.

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is reportedly receiving interest during the January transfer window.

Having moved to Anfield in July 2019, Elliott has now spent five-and-a-half years at Anfield without ever holding down a regular starting spot.

A total of 66 starts and 62 substitute appearances have been made in all competitions, his game time requiring context due to his age and injury issues.

Nevertheless, since recovering from a broken ankle for the start of December, just 138 minutes of football have been accumulated across eight appearances with 90 minutes coming during an EFL Cup tie at Southampton.

According to Sky Sports News, that has led to mounting interest in the playmaker's signature.

Admirers from Premier League and abroad

The report alleges that Brighton & Hove Albion and Borussia Dortmund are among the clubs that have started to monitor the situation.

Should it emerge that a departure for Elliott is a possibility, that interest will only increase as the January window progresses.

Brighton are in need of kick-starting their campaign after a number of draws left the Seagulls in 10th position in the Premier League table.

Meanwhile, Dortmund are down in fifth place in the Bundesliga standings despite putting together a five-game unbeaten streak before the winter break.

As it stands, a loan proposal with some sort of option to buy is likely to be their best chance of tempting Liverpool into doing business.

Why an exit for Elliott is unlikely

With two-and-a-half years still remaining on Elliott's contract, Liverpool are not in a position where they need to soften their stance over a transfer.

Furthermore, the importance of possessing a versatile homegrown talent in Arne Slot's senior squad cannot be understated.

There is every chance that Elliott will be used by Slot over the coming weeks, with an FA Cup tie against Accrington Stanley and a Champions League double-header versus Lille and PSV Eindhoven obvious opportunities for the England Under-21 international.

While Elliott will have his concerns over his game time in the short term, he may prefer to assess his options in the summer, aware he could still have a part to play in a realistic bid to win an historic quadruple as the season progresses.
