Leicester City could look to address their goalscoring issues in the summer transfer window by signing a striker to step into Jamie Vardy's shoes.

Leicester City are reported to have identified Coventry City striker Haji Wright as a potential signing ahead of the 2025-26 season.

The Foxes face the difficult task of trying to get the better of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City on Wednesday at the Etihad, with a defeat likely to pile more pressure on boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Van Nistelrooy has failed to steer his side away from the bottom three, and given his team are currently second last in 19th place with 17 points - nine fewer than 17th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers - relegation to the Championship looks almost certain.

One of the reasons for the club's struggles this campaign has been their limited threat in the final third, with their tally of 25 goals in the top flight making them the second-worst offensive team in the division.

Ahead of their likely Championship season next term, Leicestershire Live report that the club have Coventry striker Wright on their list of targets for the summer transfer window.

Is Wright the right fit?

Jamie Vardy has undoubtedly cemented himself as not just a Leicester legend but also as one of the most iconic figures of the modern Premier League era.

However, the veteran is 38 years old and has only managed to score seven goals in 27 games for the Foxes, and his physical decline is evident.

Coventry striker Wright is 27, and while he is not the youngest attacker, he is physically robust, capable of threatening in behind and carrying the ball forward at pace.

The Coventry player has scored 29 goals and provided nine assists in 72 appearances for his current club, and he has so far found the back of the net 10 times in the Championship this season despite only starting 14 matches.

Could Coventry be difficult to deal with?

Wright is embarking on his second season in England's second tier, and his experience could be vital for the Foxes if they have ambitions of returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

However, Leicester may find Coventry difficult to deal with considering they could earn promotion to the top flight, with Frank Lampard having guided them to fifth place in the Championship with just seven matchweeks remaining.

Wright may not be keen on abandoning the chance to play in the Premier League, while the Sky Blues could see selling the striker before the onset of the 2025-26 season as detrimental to their prospects.
