Bournemouth learn whether they have been successful in their appeal to overturn Evanilson's red card from Sunday's 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

Bournemouth have won their appeal to overturn Evanilson's red card from Sunday's 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

The Brazilian striker was controversially sent off in the 70th minute following a challenge on Man United defender Noussair Mazraoui.

Evanilson attempted to make the tackle with his right leg, but his standing foot slipped as he made the challenge.

Referee Peter Bankes initially showed a yellow card for the foul, before he upgraded it to a red card after being sent to the monitor following a VAR review.

Bournemouth were leading 1-0 when Evanilson was given his marching orders, but Man United made full use of the numerical advantage to net a 96th-minute equaliser.

Cherries boss Andoni Iraola expressed his frustration with the decision after the game, insisting that the club would appeal the controversial decision.

Bournemouth win Evanilson appeal

In an interview with Sky Sports News on Tuesday, Iraola admitted that he was hopeful that Bournemouth would be successful in their appeal.

"I think from the things I'm hearing now from everyone, even the pundits talking, everyone is saying that it was a very harsh decision to give a red card, and that the yellow that the referee called was OK," Iraola said.

"Everyone understands what happened, with the slip of Evanilson. Probably we have more hope than in other appeals before, considering that this season a couple of them have been successful. The Bruno Fernandes one, Myles Lewis-Skelly. So let's see."

Bournemouth have now confirmed that they have successfully overturned the red card decision, ensuring that Evanilson will avoid a three-match ban.

The decision will come as a relief to Iraola, who can continue to call upon a striker who has scored nine goals in 27 Premier League appearances this season.

What are Bournemouth's final four fixtures?

However, Bournemouth will be frustrated that the decision to send off Evanilson harmed their chances of beating Man United at the weekend.

As a result of the draw, the Cherries are sitting in 10th place and one point adrift of eighth position, which could potentially become a European qualification spot.

Bournemouth have four games left to secure a top-eight finish, beginning with Saturday's away clash against second-placed Arsenal.

They will then play host to Aston Villa, before they travel to the Etihad Stadium for a difficult game against Manchester City.

Iraola's charges will wrap up the Premier League season with a home game against relegated Leicester City on May 25.
