Manchester City allegedly table a £55m offer for Tottenham Hotspur attacker James Maddison ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester City have reportedly tabled a £55m offer for Tottenham Hotspur attacker James Maddison.

The Englishman made the move to Tottenham from Leicester City in July 2023, and he has represented his London club on 75 occasions in all competitions, scoring 16 goals and registering 21 assists in the process.

Maddison has managed 12 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances for Spurs this term, including three goals and four assists in the Europa League, with Ange Postecoglou's side on the verge of making the final.

Tottenham beat Bodo/Glimt 3-1 in the first leg of their semi-final, and Maddison was forced off in that clash after picking up an injury.

The 28-year-old was not involved in Tottenham's Premier League fixture with West Ham United on Sunday, and Postecoglou admitted after the match that he was concerned about the playmaker's fitness.

"It doesn't look great, but we're just waiting for further information. We'll just wait and see. Hopefully we'll probably get some clarity tomorrow. It's fair to say it doesn't look promising but I'll just wait and see," Postecoglou told reporters on Sunday.

Man City 'make £55m offer' for Maddison

Maddison's future beyond this summer is also seemingly in doubt, as according to Fichajes, Man City have made a £55m offer for the Englishman in the hope of bringing him to the Etihad Stadium.

The report claims that the Citizens view Maddison as the ideal player to introduce into a team which will be losing Kevin De Bruyne, with the Belgium international set to leave the Etihad Stadium on a free transfer.

Spurs view Maddison as a key player, but it is understood that the club would be willing to sell for the right price, with chairman Daniel Levy known to be an incredibly shrewd businessman.

The attacker scored 55 times and registered 39 assists in 203 appearances for Leicester before arriving at Tottenham, and a switch to Man City could help him secure a return to the England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Would Maddison be a smart signing for Man City?

Maddison is a wonderfully gifted technician, and he would have no problem in adapting to the style of play at Man City considering his ability in possession of the ball.

At £55m, a deal would also make sense for Spurs, as it would allow them to bring in a healthy transfer fee which could be put back into a squad which needs boosting ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

It is incredible to think that Maddison has only played seven times for England considering his talent, and he was left out of Thomas Tuchel's first squad since his arrival as Three Lions head coach.

Maddison may need to leave Spurs in order to break back into the England squad, and a switch to Man City does make sense, as the Citizens prepare to lose one of their greatest-ever players in the shape of De Bruyne.
