Dr Helmut Marko continues to apply pressure to Yuki Tsunoda amid a difficult run of form for the Japanese driver.
Following Red Bull's early-season decision to sideline Liam Lawson in favour of swapping him out for the more experienced Tsunoda, the 82-year-old Red Bull advisor praised how close he was running to Max Verstappen in terms of pace.
However, Marko has since highlighted that Tsunoda's performances have dipped under mounting pressure — most notably his high-speed rollover crash during the Imola weekend.
The timing was particularly unfortunate, as Tsunoda had just received the same specification car as Verstappen, including the new bodywork package that contributed to the Dutchman's pole and victory at Imola.
Tsunoda, 25, failed to reach Q3 in qualifying at Monaco.
"It's fair to say that Yuki's car is not of the same specification as Max's," Marko told sport.de. "But that's because he had a serious accident in Imola."
"The updates were for both cars. With his crash he clearly destroyed a lot of new parts," he added. "We had to bring him back to the old specification."
"Max is the priority, and in this short period you simply cannot increase production enough to ensure that you have enough parts for both cars. But we still expected him to make it to the third qualifying segment.
