Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag says that Casemiro's experience of winning throughout his career will be vital for the club.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has said that Casemiro's vast experience of winning throughout his career will help the Red Devils in their bid to return to former glories.

The Brazil international was confirmed as Man United's fourth summer signing on Monday evening, with the midfielder then presented to the Old Trafford crowd ahead of the clash with Liverpool.

Casemiro watched from the stands as his new side recorded a 2-1 victory over their bitter rivals, and he is in line to make his debut for the club in Saturday's clash with Southampton.

Ten Hag was asked about the 30-year-old following the Liverpool match and said that the new signing will act as "a guidance for the rest of the team".

"He has won so many trophies in his career," Ten Hag said to reporters after the team's first win of the campaign. "He knows the road: how you win games and finally how you win trophies.

"We [now] have more players who have won already many trophies in their career. That has to be a guidance for the rest of the team so they know and they understand how to win games. We did really well today compared to last week so we make a step [forward], but it is what you have to deliver every day and in every game."

The midfielder joined Real Madrid from Sao Paulo in 2013 and leaves the club having made 336 appearances in all competitions, contributing 31 goals and 29 assists in the process.

Last season, the South American helped Los Blancos win La Liga, the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup, while he lifted three league titles, one Copa del Rey and five Champions League titles at Bernabeu.

Casemiro has linked up with former Real Madrid teammates Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford, although it is still unclear whether the latter will remain at the club this summer.

Ronaldo was dropped from the starting lineup against Liverpool, only featuring as a late substitute, as the speculation surrounding his future continues.

Ten Hag has said that he was pleased with his team's response against Liverpool following the back-to-back losses to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford but insisted that it was "only the start".

"I wanted a different approach, I wanted a different attitude, and that is what they bring on the pitch. That's what makes me satisfied but it is only the start," he told reporters.

"We have to keep humble, but I think we can play a bit better if we have a little bit more composure, give an extra pass, we can be much more dangerous, because, as I said, we have good players with good ability, with good spirit and you will act. That is what we showed today, in moments, but also when you have to make the game, you have to be better on the ball.

"The demand is for everyone, but also for the manager. We have to deliver. You have obligations to the club, to the fans and it is a massive club with a huge fanbase. We have to deliver that. We have to act as a team and every individual has to give every day their best. That's the demand for a manager and also for the team.

"We saw a team. We saw a spirit and also a real connection between the players and then you make it really difficult for a good team, even you can beat them and that is what we did.

"That is what we did. It gives a good feeling, also when we have spirit out of good organisation, but I still think there is a lot of room for improvements.

"We have a long way to go. When you are in a process, you have to deal with setbacks and also highlights. Today is a highlight but we just started. What we have to get is the way to above.

"There is a lot of room for improvement and that is what we have to work for but I hope the players now understand the basis always of a team. Fighting spirit."

Man United are working on further improving their squad before the end of the transfer window, with Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, Ajax's Antony and PSV Eindhoven's Cody Gakpo all said to be targets.
