Preview: Wycombe Wanderers vs. Reading - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Wycombe Wanderers and Reading, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wycombe Wanderers play host to Reading on Saturday afternoon looking to further strengthen their position at the top of the League One table.

Meanwhile, the Royals make the trip to Adams Park with Ruben Selles having agreed to become the new manager of Hull City, leaving them in a period of uncertainty.

Although many outsiders will still view Birmingham City and Wrexham as promotional favourites, there is growing optimism at Wycombe that they can remain at the head of the pack.

Matt Bloomfield's side have put together a 15-match unbeaten streak in League One, winning 12 of those fixtures to sit two points clear of Wrexham.

The downside is dropping points for the first time in nine matches when the Chairboys could only earn a 2-2 draw away at Exeter City earlier this week.

Wycombe needed to come from two goals down to earn a share of the spoils that could still prove important as the season progresses.

Bloomfield's team will now look to extend their winning home record to seven matches against opponents who are likely to find themselves in disarray over the coming days.

Given the club's well-documented off-the-field issues, their promising form under Ruben Selles was always going to lead to interest in his services.

That came earlier this week as Championship side Hull City set about attracting the Spaniard to the MKM Stadium, confirmation of that deal only a matter of time.

Whoever is appointed as caretaker boss will effectively have a free shot at causing a surprise at Adams Park, yet Reading are in excellent form heading into this encounter.

A total of 17 points have been collected from a possible 24 of late, the Royals cruising to a 3-0 victory over Cambridge United in what appears to be Selles' 78th and final match in charge.

Team News

Bloomfield could be prepared to name the same Wycombe side, despite dropping points in the game at St James' Park.

If a change is made, Daniel Udoh could be restored on the right flank at the expense of veteran Garath McCleary.

As for Reading, their likely interim management team may be against tinkering with the team that eased past Cambridge.

Despite being withdrawn before the hour mark, Charlie Savage should retain his spot in the midfield three, with Harvey Knibbs remaining on the substitutes' bench.

Chem Campbell will be hoping to start against a club whom he has previously represented on loan.

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Ravizzoli; Pattenden, Low, Taylor, Harvie; Morley; Udoh, Humphreys, Leahy, Onyedinma; Kone

Reading possible starting lineup:
Pereira; Craig, Mbengue, Bindon, Dorsett; Elliott, Wing, Savage; Campbell, Smith, Camara

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 Reading

Sitting just nine points apart, Reading have reason for optimism ahead of this contest. Nevertheless, losing Selles is a major blow, and we feel that Wycombe should come through this contest in relatively comfortable fashion.
