Real Madrid team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Barcelona

Sports Mole rounds up all Real Madrid's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Thursday's Copa del Rey semi-final first leg with Barcelona.

El Clasico rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona temporarily take a break from the La Liga title race as they gear up for Thursday's showdown in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final.

Los Blancos - who have not got their hands on the crown since the 2013-14 season - have seen off Cacereno, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid to progress to the final four, and they renewed hostilities with the latter in the weekend's La Liga clash.

An equaliser from teenage starlet Alvaro Rodriguez saw Carlo Ancelotti's side come away with a point in a 1-1 draw in the Madrid derby, and the Spanish champions host Barcelona this week before the second leg at Camp Nou on April 5.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Real Madrid's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Thursday's first leg with Barcelona, who saw off Real Sociedad 1-0 in the last eight.

David Alaba

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: March 19 (vs. Barcelona)

David Alaba sustained a hamstring injury in the first leg of Real's Champions League last-16 tie versus Liverpool, and he is expected to remain out for between three and four weeks, potentially putting him in contention to return for next month's Clasico in La Liga.

Ferland Mendy

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: April 2 (vs. Real Valladolid)

Ferland Mendy sustained a thigh injury during Real's Copa del Rey quarter-final win over Atletico in January, and the left-back may not be seen in a Real Madrid shirt until after the March international break.

REAL MADRID'S SUSPENSION LIST

Luka Modric picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the weekend's Madrid derby, but he will serve that suspension in the weekend's La Liga clash with Real Betis, meaning that Real Madrid have no players banned for this match.
