Wolfsburg reportedly decide whether to pursue a permanent transfer for defender Mads Roerslev, who is currently on loan from Brentford.

Wolfsburg have reportedly decided against signing Brentford loanee Mads Roerslev on a permanent transfer.

The Dane was allowed to leave in the January transfer window despite making 19 Premier League appearances in the first half of the campaign.

Roerslev was ultimately deemed surplus to requirements after the Bees signed Fiorentina's Michael Kayode on loan until the end of the season.

Unfortunately for Roerslev, he has struggled to make an impact during his loan spell with Ralph Hasenhuttl's side.

The right-back has been restricted to just five Bundesliga appearances due to a combination of injuries and selection decisions.

Wolfsburg make decision over Roerslev transfer

There is an option in Roerslev's loan agreement for Wolfsburg to convert the loan move into a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

However, according to German outlet Kicker, the Bundesliga side have already decided that they will not exercise the buy option for the 25-year-old.

As a result, Roerslev will return to Brentford at the end of the season, although there is considerable doubt as to whether he will still be at the Premier League club for the 2025-26 campaign.

Brentford could look to secure a permanent exit for the defender, especially as he is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

With that in mind, the upcoming transfer window represents the final opportunity for the Bees to command a meaningful fee for Roerslev.

Onyeka to join Roerslev in Brentford return

Roerslev is not the only player set to return to Brentford from a Bundesliga loan spell, with midfielder Frank Onyeka unlikely to extend his stay with Augsburg.

The Nigeria international has made 28 Bundesliga appearances since he joined the German club on a season-long loan deal last summer.

While Onyeka has enjoyed regular game time, Augsburg are not expected to exercise their right to sign him on a permanent transfer.
