Barcelona announce that midfielder Gavi has penned a new long-term contract at Camp Nou.

Barcelona have confirmed that they have negotiated a new long-term contract with Gavi.

Despite only turning 18 years of age last month, the midfielder is already regarded as a first-team star at Camp Nou.

A total of 53 appearances have been made in all competitions with the teenager contributing two goals and six assists.

Such has been Gavi's development that a wide array of European clubs have been monitoring his contract situation since he burst into the senior setup.

As well as the youngster having a contract with the Catalan giants until 2023, an attainable release clause was present in his deal.

Premier League clubs such as Liverpool and Chelsea are said to be admirers of the player, who already has 10 caps to his name for Spain.

However, Barcelona and Gavi have always been keen to reach a positive resolution to contract talks, which had to be held back due to club officials needing to boost their financial position.

That has been achieved through player departures and selling percentages of future television revenue, putting Barcelona in a place where they have now been able to finalise details with Gavi.

The La Liga outfit say that Gavi's contract will run until the end of 2025-26, with a €1bn release clause being present in those terms.

Barcelona will formally present Gavi to the media and supporters on Thursday evening, with the contract being officially finalised on the pitch at Camp Nou.

Gavi has already made a total of six starts and one substitute outing in all competitions this season, although he has only completed the 90 minutes on one occasion.

The La Masia graduate came through 61 minutes of Tuesday's 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich before his substitution as Barcelona chased the game at the Allianz Arena.
