Rangers qualify for the Europa League last 16 after Thursday's 2-2 second-leg draw against Borussia Dortmund at Ibrox was enough for them to progress 6-4 on aggregate.

Rangers have qualified for the last 16 of the Europa League after Thursday's enthralling 2-2 second-leg draw against Borussia Dortmund at Ibrox was enough for them to progress 6-4 on aggregate.

The Gers were boasting a two-goal advantage before kickoff after securing a memorable 4-2 first-leg victory at Westfalenstadion last week.

In front of a rocking Ibrox crowd, captain marvel James Tavernier broke the deadlock from the penalty spot – as he did in Germany – in the 22nd minute, after Julian Brandt carelessly stuck out a leg to bring Ryan Kent down in the box.

Dortmund managed to equalise nine minutes later when Jude Bellingham calmly slotted the ball past Allan McGregor from close range, taking advantage of Connor Goldson's sloppy clearance inside the area.

Bellingham then turned provider on the stroke of half time, cleverly flicking the ball to Donyell Malen, who tucked away his effort from a few yards out to give Dortmund the lead on the night, which cut Rangers' aggregate advantage to a single goal.

After an electric first 45, there were no signs of the game's frantic tempo slowing down, and just before the hour mark, Rangers restored their two-goal cushion on aggregate when Calvin Bassey's brilliant run down the left flank resulted in the left-back curling a cross towards Tavernier at the back post who rifled the ball past Gregor Kobel, sending Ibrox into pandemonium.

10 minutes later, the Gers thought they put themselves 3-2 ahead on the night, however Kent's goal was disallowed by VAR, who decided Alfredo Morelos had fouled Emre Can in the build-up.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men comfortably saw out the final 15 minutes and secured arguably the playoff round's biggest upset, eliminating last season's Champions League quarter-finalists.

Rangers supporters will now be keen to discover who they could come up against in the last 16 when the draw is made in Nyon at 11am on Friday.
