Nottingham Forest transfer news: Inter Milan midfielder on radar should Champions League qualification be achieved?

Nottingham Forest will reportedly look to sign a star man from Inter Milan should they earn qualification for next season's Champions League.

Nottingham Forest have reportedly identified an Inter Milan star as a potential summer transfer target.

On Monday evening, the East Midlands outfit secured their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals after edging out Ipswich Town in a penalty shootout.

However, Nuno Espirito Santo's priority is to earn European qualification through the Premier League, in particular the Champions League given that Forest currently sit in the top three in the Premier League table.

Should a shock place at European football's top table materialise, Nuno would naturally be provided with the funds to keep Forest as contenders at a higher level in the long term.

According to Tuttosport, Forest hold an interest in securing a deal for Davide Frattesi.

Forest planning ambitious move?

Having started each of Italy's six UEFA Nations League fixture between September and November, it is clear how Frattesi is valued in Italian football.

That is despite just eight starts and 20 substitute outings coming for Inter in Serie A and Champions League fixtures during 2024-25.

A total of four goals and one assist have still come from those outings, with the 25-year-old currently bidding to regain a regular spot in the team.

Forest are said to view Frattesi as someone who can bring 'Champions League quality' to their squad, and a move only seems likely if such a feat is achieved.

The report alleges that Inter would be looking to recoup at least €35m (£29m) for Frattesi if they are to give the green light to a sale.

Inter paid in the region of €26m when pushing through a deal for then-Sassuolo man Frattesi after an initial loan and his contract at San Siro expires in 2028.

A certain starter at Forest?

Nuno has a wide array of midfield options at his disposal with five different players having been vying for two positions throughout 2024-25.

That said, it appears plausible that Frattesi would go to the top of the pecking order in the engine room if he were to move to Forest.

Elliot Anderson has been most regularly used by Nuno, with Ryan Yates, Ibrahim Sangare, Nicolas Dominguez and Danilo also competing for a spot.
