England boss Gareth Southgate prepares to recall Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho to his Three Lions squad, according to a report.

England boss Gareth Southgate is reportedly preparing to recall Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho to his squad for the national team's upcoming internationals.

The Three Lions will take on Italy and Germany in the UEFA Nations League on September 23 and September 26 respectively, which will be their final two fixtures ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

England will begin their World Cup campaign against Iran on November 21, while they will also take on the United States and Wales in the group stage of the competition.

Manchester United duo Rashford and Sancho were not named in the England squad for their June fixtures, while the former has not been included for the Three Lions since November 2021.

Sancho has actually not been named in the squad since October 2021, having found it difficult to show his best form for Man United since arriving from Borussia Dortmund.

The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for the Red Devils this season, though, scoring twice in six Premier League appearances.

Sancho has contributed three goals in 23 appearances for England, meanwhile, and he will seemingly be given the chance to earn a spot in the squad for the World Cup.

Rashford has also been in strong form at club level this term, scoring three times and registering two assists in six appearances, thriving as a centre-forward for the Red Devils.

The 24-year-old has represented the Three Lions on 46 occasions, meanwhile, scoring 12 times in the process.

According to the Daily Mail, Southgate is expected to recall both players to his latest selection, as the head coach looks to revitalise a squad that struggled in the UEFA Nations League matches in June.

England's last match on June 14 ended in a 4-0 home defeat to Hungary, while they also lost 1-0 to the same side in June, in addition to playing out draws with Germany and Italy.

Earlier this year, Southgate admitted that Sancho and Rashford 'had a lot of work to do' to get back in the squad due to the form of the players ahead of them in the pecking order.

"They've got a lot to do to get back in the squad. We've only got one [Harry Maguire] with us! Well, look, I think the lower the load then of course the less likely for injuries and the hope that players can be that little bit sharper but there's no way of knowing," he told reporters.

"Some players are at their best when they're in a rhythm of playing and you talk to some of our lads now and they want to play every game because that's how they feel they get to their best level.

"Others need the breaks, they need longer recovery between the matches to be at their best."

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Eric Dier is also allegedly in line for a recall to the squad.
