Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund trains with his new side on Wednesday amid concerns over a back issue.

Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund trained with his new side on Wednesday amid concerns that a back issue could keep him out of the opening six weeks of the 2022-23 campaign.

The Denmark international's switch from Atalanta BC was confirmed on Saturday, with the youngster penning a five-year deal at Old Trafford.

Hojlund will not be available for Man United's 2023-24 Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday evening, though, due to a troublesome back issue.

There have been suggestions that the 20-year-old could be out until the middle of September, with the Red Devils not prepared to take any chances with his fitness due to the nature of the problem.

Hojlund was able to train with Man United on Wednesday, though, with the club revealing that he is currently undertaking an individual programme.

"Our new man was not involved in that game (against Lens), or Sunday's meeting with Athletic Club in Dublin, having sustained a minor injury during pre-season training with Atalanta," read a statement on the English club's official website.

"That issue is expected to keep him out for a few weeks, but the club is managing his recovery with an individual programme.

"Part of that involved Rasmus working out on the grass at our training ground today and he is recovering well."

There has not yet been any official news over the timeframe of the issue, although he is believed to definitely be out of the team's first two games against Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to MUTV during his official unveiling, the Denmark international called himself "physical", "passionate" and "fast" when questioned on his skillset.

"[I'm] physical, passionate, and let's go with fast. In Atalanta, we played a lot off the sides as well. As a wide striker, you would say [it's about] build-up play, hold-up play but, when I'm with the national team, I'm more of the target nine, an inside-the-box striker," he said.

"So it's definitely two different kind of roles that I've had before so I hope that I can fit into the system. I think I can, that's why I've decided to come here, so I just have to hear what the boss is saying.

"[With Denmark] it's more like in between the six-yard box, working with the small movements and just focusing about making the goals, being the target no.9. So, I feel like I always have the confidence, both in bad and good times, but it's definitely two different kind of roles I've been playing.

"But I like to say I can score goals in both ways. I like to say that I can also finish with my right foot even though I'm left-footed. I like to dribble more with my left than my right, but the finishing, it should be alright with both feet."

Hojlund scored 10 goals and registered four assists in 34 appearances for Atalanta last season, while he has also represented Copenhagen and Sturm Graz during his professional career.
