Wolverhampton Wanderers will be bidding to end a 79-year streak when they square off against Manchester City in the Premier League on Friday night.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be bidding to end a 79-year streak when they square off against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The West Midlands outfit head into Friday's fixture at the Etihad Stadium safe from relegation and looking to finish no lower than 13th place in the table.

Squaring off against a resurgent Man City side represents their toughest remaining test of 2024-25, yet Vitor Pereira and his squad will fancy their chances of upsetting the odds in the North West.

Wolves will take to the pitch versus the recently-dethroned Premier League champions as the form team in the division, winning their last six matches in England's top flight.

Southampton, West Ham United, Ipswich Town, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Leicester City have all been defeated in a row.

What streaks are up for grabs for Wolves?

Should Wolves earn a rare win at the Etihad Stadium, it would represent the first time since 1946 that they have recorded seven successive victories in the top flight.

Furthermore, Wolves are also aiming to emerge victorious in five successive top-flight games for the first time since 1980; the last time that they achieved the feat in any division was in League One back in 2013.

Five of Wolves' six away victories in the Premier League this season have come since the arrival of Pereira, the only such success under Gary O'Neil coming at Fulham on November 23.

Nevertheless, they remain as clear underdogs to overcome Man City, who have put together a six-match unbeaten in the Premier League of their own.

Man City dominant over Wolves

In the last nine matches between these two sides at the Etihad Stadium, Man City have won eight, only losing in 2019 when Wolves rallied during the latter stages to prevail by a 2-0 scoreline.

Man City have also won eight of the last nine games against Wolves in total, with eight goals being scored by the home side in the last two meetings in Manchester.

Alongside Liverpool, Pep Guardiola's side boast the joint-best attacking home record in the division, netting 39 times.

Perhaps most notably, three clean sheets have been posted in five games, while only a penalty was shipped in the win over Aston Villa on April 22.
