Dr Helmut Marko has firmly dismissed growing speculation that he is nearing retirement from his influential role as Red Bull's motorsport advisor.
The 82-year-old recently suggested that four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel could be an ideal successor, a comment that fueled existing rumours about his potential exit, especially after narrowly navigating Red Bull's management upheaval in 2024.
However, when asked about discussions with Vettel, Marko told Osterreich newspaper, "That was just an idea of mine. But it's not ready for a decision—we're still a long way from that."
He added, "I don't know who wants to retire me at the end of the year, but I certainly don't plan to do that yet. As they say, he who rests, rusts."
Marko's focus remains on Red Bull's future, including its 2025 driver line-up, which saw Liam Lawson replaced by Yuki Tsunoda after just two races. "Yuki's getting better and better," Marko said. "He's the first teammate (for Max Verstappen) who can even get a taste of Max's performance. Unfortunately, when the pressure increases, he still makes mistakes."
In Miami, speculation emerged that Red Bull might consider another driver change for 2026, potentially influenced by Honda's shift to Aston Martin.
Commenting on McLaren's championship leader Oscar Piastri, Marko expressed admiration, stating, "I'm very impressed. He always stays cool and constantly puts pressure on to stay at the front. That's refreshing." He then immediately highlighted Red Bull's junior driver, saying, "But I wouldn't underestimate our (Isack) Hadjar," having previously praised the Frenchman's performances at Racing Bulls in 2025 so far.
