Preview: Mansfield Town vs. Wrexham - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's League One clash between Mansfield Town and Wrexham, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Mansfield Town will attempt to end an eight-game winless league run when they welcome Wrexham to the One Call Stadium for Sunday's League One fixture.

Meanwhile, promotion-chasing Wrexham will be looking to return to winning ways after being beaten by Leyton Orient in midweek.

After collecting 37 points from 23 matches, Mansfield were sitting in ninth position at the halfway point of the season with a four-point gap to the top six.

However, their playoff hopes have since become a distant memory, having taken just one point from their last eight league games since beating Stockport County on January 4.

The Stags lost six league matches on the bounce before they gave up a 3-1 lead in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

Nigel Clough's side conceded three goals for the third consecutive game in last Saturday's heavy 3-0 defeat against Leyton Orient, with the result representing a fourth straight home league defeat since they beat Bolton Wanderers on New Year's Day.

Their hopes of claiming a much-needed win on Sunday will be tempered by the fact that they have failed to win any of their last four meetings with Wrexham since winning 1-0 in April 2013.

Promotion hopefuls Wrexham have lost ground on second-placed Wycombe after winning just two of their last six matches in League One (D1, L3).

They picked up those two victories in a four-game winning run in all competitions, but that promising run of form was brought to an end in Tuesday's home clash against Leyton Orient despite taking the lead through Ollie Rathbone.

Charlie Kelman and Jamie Donley turned the game in Leyton Orient's favour to condemn Wrexham to back-to-back home defeats in League One, leaving them five points adrift of Wycombe Wanderers.

They will try to offer a positive response in Sunday's fixture, with the visitors looking to complete a league double over Mansfield after recording a 1-0 victory in November's reverse fixture.

The opening goal could be crucial to Wrexham's hopes of claiming a positive result, having lost all four away league matches when they have conceded first this season.

Team News

Mansfield are unable to call upon the services of Deji Oshilaja, Matthew Craig and Lee Gregory due to their respective injury issues.

The defensive trio of Elliott Hewitt, Frazer Blake-Tracy and George Williams are set to miss out after being forced off in the midweek defeat against Lincoln.

Lucas Akins also picked up an injury issue in Tuesday's loss, making the forward a doubt for Sunday's home clash with Wrexham.

As for the visitors, Phil Parkinson has revealed that Elliot Lee is back working on the grass, but he is unlikely to be ready for the trip to the One Call Stadium.

Wing-back James McClean has undergone a scan on a hip problem, with Wrexham set to make a late decision on his availability.

Parkinson will have to choose between Ryan Longman and Seb Revan if McClean is unable to take part, while there is a possibility that Arthur Okonkwo could feature in between the posts after having to settle for a place on the bench in the last two matches.

Mansfield Town possible starting lineup:
Pym; Lewis, Bowery, Flint, McLaughlin; Baccus, Reed; Vickers, Quinn, Maris; Evans

Wrexham possible starting lineup:
Okonkwo; Cleworth, O'Connell, Brunt; Barnett, Dobson, James, Rathbone, McClean; Rodriguez, Smith

We say: Mansfield Town 0-2 Wrexham

Wrexham have won each of their last three competitive away matches, and we think that they will enjoy more success on the road when they go up against a Mansfield side that will be bereft of confidence after losing seven of their previous eight league matches.
