Manchester United allegedly make a formal enquiry for a Premier League left-back, despite interest in Lecce's Patrick Dorgu.

Manchester United have reportedly enquired about the availability of a Premier League left-back.

Sunday's 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton & Hove Albion highlighted the struggles that Ruben Amorim continues to encounter with his 3-4-3 formation at Old Trafford.

With Luke Shaw having barely played for a year and Tyrell Malacia allegedly available for a January exit, it has left United to consider alternatives.

On Monday, a report emerged suggesting that United had instigated formal discussions with Lecce regarding a potential deal for Patrick Dorgu.

The Denmark international may allegedly cost in the region of €40m (£33.9m), a fee that United will only be able to pay should they facilitate a number of exits.

Domestic alternative on United's radar?

According to ESPN, United officials are also exploring the possibility of signing a player already vastly experienced in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell is said to be on United's radar with the club's hierarchy said to have enquired about the England international.

Mitchell is said to hold a contract at Selhurst Park until 2027, Palace likely to be eager to retain his services in the long term with 170 appearances having been made in all competitions.

Furthermore, Mitchell is a homegrown talent at a time when Palace have already lost Chelsea loanee Trevoh Chalobah who has returned to his parent club.

While no transfer fee has been mentioned, it is plausible to expect Palace to demand at least a similar fee to what Lecce will ask for Dorgu.

Does Mitchell have a particular stance?

Having spent the entirety of his career at Palace and progressed into an England international, Mitchell may soon be ready for a new challenge.

With two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, Palace will be in no rush to cash in on his signature, especially when Marc Guehi could be sold in the summer.

Mitchell's stance may be dependent on which clubs express an interest. He has already witnessed Aaron Wan-Bissaka have a mixed spell at Old Trafford having left the Eagles for the Theatre of Dreams.

There could be suitors from other Premier League sides as time progresses, while opportunities could materialise abroad the longer that his contract runs down.
