Liverpool 'to be crowned champions if season is abandoned'

Liverpool are likely to be crowned Premier League champions for the 2019-20 campaign even if the season does not finish, according to a report.

Liverpool are reportedly likely to be crowned Premier League champions for the 2019-20 campaign even if the season is unable to resume due to the coronavirus outbreak.

On Friday, it was announced that the next two weekends of Premier League action have been suspended due to the spread of the coronavirus, which has played havoc with the sporting calendar.

As it stands, the action is due to resume in early April, but there are concerns that the campaign will unable to be finished due to the worldwide virus.

Liverpool are currently 25 points clear of second-placed Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table but have not yet done enough to mathematically secure the trophy.

According to The Telegraph, though, Liverpool are still expected to be crowned champions even if the season does not finish as there is 'little opposition' due to the Merseyside club's substantial lead.

Jurgen Klopp's side were knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16 on Wednesday night as they suffered a 4-2 aggregate defeat to Atletico Madrid, although the European Cup has also since been suspended.
