Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou provides an update on the availability of a key defender ahead of Wednesday's Premier League game against Manchester City.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Ben Davies will miss out on selection for the Manchester City game on Wednesday night.

The North Londoners head into their latest Premier League fixture having put together a three-match winning streak in the competition.

Victories have been recorded over Brentford, Manchester United and Ipswich Town respectively, Spurs moving into 12th place in the standings.

Postecoglou's side have improved at the same time as a number of players have been able to return to the squad after varying periods on the sidelines.

Nevertheless, speaking to the club's official website on Tuesday, Postecoglou acknowledged that his squad would not be facilitating Davies in the short term.

What did Postecoglou say?

Davies has played a key role in the absences of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, making a total of 16 starts and two substitute outings in all competitions.

However, having missed the game with Ipswich at the weekend with an undisclosed issue, Postecoglou has ruled the Wales international out for a second match.

He said: "Good news, everyone who played got through really well. It's great that we could give guys like Madders (James Maddison) and Pedro [Porro] a bit of a rest and still be able to come on, and contribute, and get game time into Brennan [Johnson] and Destiny [Udogie].

"They all came through really well. So, that means it will be a similar squad for tomorrow.

"We were hoping maybe Ben would be ready for this game, he won't make it, but we've a seven-day break (after City), so, he'll miss out."

Similar starting lineup?

As Postecoglou alluded to, he was able to rest players during the second half at Portman Road, as well as hand opportunities to squad members who have spent time on the sidelines.

With Romero and Van de Ven still at least a week away from a return to the squad, it appears plausible that Archie Gray will partner Kevin Danso in the middle of the defence.

Meanwhile, Man City boss Pep Guardiola has provided an update on the fitness of Erling Haaland after the Norwegian missed Sunday's defeat to Liverpool.
