Leeds United reportedly emerge as one of the most likely destinations for a Nigeria international ahead of the closure of the winter transfer window.

Leeds United are reportedly waiting on developments regarding the future of Sevilla forward Kelechi Iheanacho.

Daniel Farke's side are currently well on their way to a return to the Premier League as they sit top of the Championship table after 29 matches.

As it stands, Leeds are yet to make a single addition during the winter window, yet that is expected to change before the February 3 deadline.

According to Diario de Sevilla, Iheanacho has emerged as a realistic transfer target ahead of the closing three days of the market.

The report suggests that the Nigeria international is continuing to consider where he sees his future for the second half of the season and beyond.

Just five starts and four substitute outings have come in La Liga since he made his move on a free transfer during the summer.

With Sevilla ready to facilitate an exit, either on a permanent or temporary basis, it is left to the 28-year-old to decide on his next move.

A further report in ABC Sevilla suggests that a loan exit is more likely with the Spanish club determined to lower their wage bill with Iheanacho allegedly on a £3.5m-per-year deal.

Iheanacho is also said to have offers on the table from clubs in France and Greece, teams who can offer him top-flight football.

Do Leeds really need Iheanacho?

With 53 goals being scored from their 29 second-tier fixtures, Leeds possess by far and away the best attacking record in the Championship.

That said, only three players - Joel Piroe, Brenden Aaronson and Daniel James - have scored seven goals or more in the league.

Farke is not short of depth in the final third, yet Iheanacho would add valuable experience to the squad with 42 goals and 25 assists coming from 196 Premier League appearances.

While it is questionable whether he would make regular starts at Elland Road, being part of a Championship-promotion campaign would increase his chances of returning to the division next season.
