Preview: Galatasaray vs. Kayserispor - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Turkish Super Lig clash between Galatasaray and Kayserispor, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Galatasaray welcome Kayserispor to Rams Park on Sunday, needing just one point to officially clinch the 2024–25 Turkish Super Lig title.

The two-time defending champions are eight points ahead of second-placed Fenerbahce with three matches left to play, and anything apart from defeat will secure their third straight league title and a domestic double.

Confidence in the Galatasaray camp is soaring after they beat Trabzonspor twice in one week, first in the league with a comfortable 2-0 win, and then in emphatic fashion in the Turkish Cup final, securing a 3-0 triumph to lift the trophy.

Nigerian star Victor Osimhen played a decisive role, scoring a brace in the final and breaking a long-standing club record with 35 goals in all competitions, as he surpassed Mario Jardel's 34-goal haul from the 1999-2000 campaign, becoming the highest-scoring foreign player in a single season for Cimbom.

With the league's golden boot still within reach, Osimhen will be aiming to add to his 24 league goals, holding a narrow three-goal lead over Istanbul Basaksehir's Krzysztof Piatek.

More broadly, Galatasaray will be determined to seal the title with a statement win in front of their supporters and continue their recent dominance over Kayserispor, having gone unbeaten in the last four meetings, including a 5-1 thrashing in the reverse fixture.

The last time Cimbom won the Super Lig and Turkish Cup double was back in 2018-19, and this would come as a huge relief for Okan Buruk, who faced huge scrutiny all season.

Kayserispor, however, are not expected to roll over easily, with the visitors having found their form since the appointment of Sergej Jakirovic.

They were impressive once again last weekend, dispatching Antalyaspor 3-1 to edge ever closer to safety, having now gone six games unbeaten with four wins and two draws.

The Anatolian Star sit nine points clear of the relegation zone with three matches to play and, while a result in Istanbul would virtually secure their top-flight status, the upcoming matches against Bodrumspor and Samsunspor offer more realistic opportunities to wrap up survival.

The visitors have struggled on the road all season, an issue Jakirovic has not been able to solve, with their only away victory in 2025 coming against bottom side Adana Demirspor.

Team News

Mauro Icardi celebrates scoring for Galatasaray on September 25, 2024© Imago

Galatasaray will remain without Mauro Icardi, who sustained a cruciate ligament injury and will be unavailable until next season, while Eyup Aydin is also sidelined through injury.

Roland Sallai has proven a reliable solution to Cimbom's full-back issues and is expected to continue at right-back.

Kayserispor, meanwhile, will be without striker Stephane Bahoken, who is ruled out until 2026 with a ruptured Achilles tendon, meaning Duckens Nazon will lead the line once again.

Yaw Ackah has suffered a muscle injury that will keep him out until the following campaign, while Arif Kocaman and Anthony Uzodimma are also unavailable due to injury.

Galatasaray possible starting lineup:
Muslera; Sallai, Sanchez, Bardakci, Elmali; Torreira, Lemina; Akgun, Morata, Yilmaz; Osimhen

Kayserispor possible starting lineup:
Bayazit; Sazdagi, Attamah, Hosseini, Carole; Yilmaz, Karimi; Civelek, Bourabia, Cardoso; Nazon

We say: Galatasaray 3-1 Kayserispor

Kayserispor's recent form has been impressive, but facing a Galatasaray side on the brink of securing the title is a far greater test, and with confidence soaring and Osimhen chasing the Golden Boot, Cimbom should prove too strong at home, which is why we are expecting a convincing win from the hosts to crown a dominant campaign.
