Tottenham Hotspur reportedly set an asking price for Cristian Romero amid transfer interest from Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly placed a price tag on Cristian Romero amid interest from Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

Romero has made 121 competitive appearances since joining Tottenham from Serie A side Atalanta BC in the summer of 2022.

The 27-year-old has seen his 2024-25 campaign hampered by injury, but he is still regarded as an important member of Ange Postecoglou's side, demonstrated by the fact that he has worn the captain's armband in four of his last six Premier League appearances.

Romero still has two years left to run on his Tottenham contract, but he recently opened the door to a potential move away from the North London club.

The Argentine admitted that he "would love to play" in La Liga at some point in his career, fuelling speculation that he could be on the move this summer.

Atletico, Real Madrid learn Spurs asking price

Atletico and Real Madrid are said to be among his potential suitors, although Tottenham could still look to tie him down to a new contract.

However, it appears that Spurs could be open to a departure if they receive a suitable offer for the Argentina international.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Tottenham could part ways with Romero if one of his suitors meets their €70m (£60m) asking price.

The same report claims that Atletico view Romero as one of their priority target for the summer transfer window, along with Villarreal attacker Alex Baena.

Why are Atletico keen to sign Romero?

Atletico are set to make an effort to bolster Diego Simeone's squad after falling short in their quest to win silverware this season.

Los Colchoneros were eliminated in the quarter-finals and the semi-finals of the Champions League and Copa del Rey respectively, while they have fallen 10 points adrift of leaders Barcelona in La Liga.

The backline is one area that they are keen to strengthen, especially as there could be defensive departures in the summer transfer window.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Alex Witsel are both set to leave when their contracts expire this summer, while it remains to be seen whether Atleti will convert Clement Lenglet's loan move from Barcelona into a permanent transfer.
