Real Madrid are allegedly contemplating an approach for an Arsenal defender who is yet to pen a longer deal with the Gunners.

Real Madrid are reportedly making an attempt to prise an Arsenal defender away from the Emirates Stadium this summer.

With Xabi Alonso having just been confirmed as the new head coach of Real Madrid, Los Blancos will now go through a transitional period on the back of surrendering the La Liga title to Barcelona.

There are several areas of the pitch that require strengthening, with Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen having already been signed and veteran midfielder Luka Modric departing the Bernabeu having reached veteran status.

The left-back position is another area which brings issues for Alonso, a consequence of Ferland Mendy having sometimes struggled to remain fit and Fran Garcia not always being convincing while at the club.

According to The Guardian, Real Madrid have been put on 'red alert' regarding the contractual situation involving Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Arsenal facing fit to keep youngster?

In his first season as a professional at the Emirates Stadium, the 18-year-old has impressed to such an extent that he has already earned England recognition and scored a goal.

A total of 39 appearances have been made in all competitions, contributing one strike and two assists, with his performances being one of the highlights of the campaign.

However, there is currently only one year remaining on his contract and discussions over a renewal are allegedly 'not going well'.

As such, Real Madrid are monitoring the situation in the event that they can sign Lewis-Skelly on a free transfer at the end of 2025-26.

They had taken that approach with acquiring Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool until agreeing to pay a £10m fee to make him available for the upcoming Club World Cup.

How will situation pan out?

With Real Madrid seemingly not prepared to make a concrete move until January at the earliest, the feeling is that Arsenal remain in a strong position.

That said, they will fear the worst if Lewis-Skelly does not sign on the dotted line over the coming months, aware of how Alexander-Arnold recently saw out his Liverpool deal.

Whether Arsenal would be prepared to consider any offers for Lewis-Skelly this summer remains to be seen, but everything appears in place for him to stay as first-choice left-back under Mikel Arteta going forward.
