Liverpool reportedly join Arsenal in the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to rival Arsenal in the race to sign Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich.

The Germany international has won numerous honours during his 10-year stay in Bavaria, including eight Bundesliga titles and the 2019-20 Champions League.

Thirty-year-old Kimmich remains a key part of the Bayern side, demonstrated by the fact that he has started 23 of the club's 24 Bundesliga matches this season.

However, it appears that his long association with the Bavarians could be drawing to a close due to his contract situation.

Bayern were believed to be close to reaching an agreement with Kimmich over a new deal, before it was recently revealed that the German giants had withdrawn their contract offer.

Liverpool to rival Arsenal for Kimmich

As a result, Kimmich is currently on course to leave Vincent Kompany's side when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Having entered the final six months of his deal, the Bayern midfielder is allowed to speak to clubs outside of Germany over a pre-contract agreement

Arsenal have emerged as a contender for Kimmich's signature following speculation that they have already held talks over a potential move.

According to The Sun, Liverpool are preparing to rival Arsenal in the race to sign the midfielder on a free transfer this summer.

The Reds are already on course to beat Arsenal to the Premier League title, and they will also be keen to get the better of the Gunners in the transfer market.

Liverpool and Arsenal will also have to be wary of potential competition from Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Why are Liverpool keen on Kimmich?

It is well known that Liverpool failed in their attempt to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi last summer.

That disappointment has been somewhat forgotten after Ryan Gravenberch established himself as a key part of the Liverpool midfield.

However, Liverpool will still be keen to bolster their midfield options this summer, and Kimmich could be the perfect candidate due to his versatility.

Not only would he add to Liverpool's engine room, but he would also offer the Reds a top-quality option at right-back, which could be crucial if Trent Alexander-Arnold departs for Real Madrid upon the expiry of his contract.
