Athletic Bilbao attacker Nico Williams remains a transfer target for Liverpool, according to a report.

Liverpool are reportedly still interested in signing Athletic Bilbao attacker Nico Williams.

The Reds have been linked with the 20-year-old's services in recent transfer windows, and there is currently a host of speculation surrounding his future ahead of the summer market.

According to AS, Liverpool could move for Williams at the end of the campaign, while there is further interest from the Premier League in the shape of Aston Villa.

The report claims that Athletic are working to extend the youngster's contract, with his current deal due to expire in June 2024.

The release clause in Williams's current deal is believed to be €50m (£44m), which would make him a low-cost option in the summer market considering his potential.

Williams has been a regular for Athletic during the 2022-23 campaign, making 32 appearances in all competitions, contributing seven goals and six assists in the process.

In La Liga, the forward has four goals and five assists in 26 appearances, with his Basque club currently seventh in the table, four points behind sixth-placed Villarreal.

Meanwhile, Williams has three goals and one assist in six Copa del Rey outings, with the Lions in the semi-finals of the competition, trailing 1-0 to Osasuna ahead of the second leg of their last-four tie.

The attacker is also now a regular in the Spain set-up, making eight appearances for the national side, scoring once, with the goal coming against Jordan in a friendly last November.

Williams was selected in the Spain squad for the 2022 World Cup, making four appearances at the competition, while he played 45 minutes of his side's 2-0 loss to Scotland last time out.

The forward has 10 goals and seven assists in 74 appearances for Athletic in all competitions, and his ability to play in a number of different positions has allegedly made him an even more attractive proposition.

Liverpool are currently well-stocked in the final third, with Cody Gakpo being added to the squad in January.

However, Roberto Firmino will be leaving Anfield on a free transfer this summer, while Diogo Jota has struggled for form since returning from injury, failing to find the back of the net in 17 appearances this term.

Williams was a second-half substitute in Athletic's goalless draw with Getafe in La Liga on Saturday, but he is expected to be back in the starting XI for Tuesday's Copa del Rey semi-final second leg with Osasuna.
