Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard reveals the reasons behind his decision to sign a new two-year contract with the Premier League club.

Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard has explained that there were "a lot of factors" behind his decision to sign a new contract with the Premier League club.

Norgaard was set to be out of contract at the end of the season, although there was an option to extend his deal by a further year.

However, a recent report claimed that Brentford and Norgaard had reached an agreement over a fresh two-year contract.

Brentford have now confirmed Norgaard's new contract, which will keep him at the Gtech Community Stadium until the summer of 2027.

Norgaard reveals reasons behind new deal

Following the announcement, the Brentford captain revealed that there were several reasons behind his decision to commit his future to the Premier League club.

"There are a lot of factors that played their part in me signing a new deal," Norgaard told the club's official website.

"Most importantly, it's a place I feel very safe in. It's an environment I enjoy being in and my family loves living in West London. If they are not happy then I will not be able to perform.

"My wife is very supportive. She's fantastic with our children as well but she also made it pretty clear that her first priority is that she'd be very happy if we stayed. I'm sure that also played a part in my way of thinking.

"I enjoy the responsibility and the role I have at the club. I've been at other clubs where I haven't played as much, so just playing football is something you should always appreciate.

"Our whole coaching staff is incredible to work with and again, is something that played its part in me extending. It's special to keep being a part of something that you've been a part of for a long time."

Frank makes "no-brainer" claim

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has admitted that it was an easy decision for the club to make an effort to retain Norgaard's services.

"This new contract was a no-brainer for us and Christian," Frank said. "Christian has been an integral part of the fantastic journey we have been on these past six years.

"He is our club captain and one of our most important players. His ability to sense danger and make interceptions is at an extraordinarily high level, as is his ability to play forward on the first or second touch. And he has picked up his goal threat this season!"

"The first time I coached Christian, he was a no.10; now he is one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League.

"I'm very happy. Hopefully we can continue to be successful together with Christian leading the team."

Norgaard will continue to don the captain's armband when Brentford return to action for Wednesday's Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
