Arsenal defender William Saliba is reportedly keen to remain with the North London club despite speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

William Saliba has reportedly told Arsenal in 'private' that he has no plans to leave the club despite being linked with European champions Real Madrid.

Los Blancos could bolster their defensive options this summer after seeing their strength in depth tested due to injuries this season.

Eder Militao is currently sidelined with a long-term knee injury, while David Alaba only returned from a lengthy absence in January.

Real Madrid's defensive injury issues have opened the door for academy product Raul Asencio to establish himself as a regular fixture in the first-team squad.

While Asencio's emergence has boosted Carlo Ancelotti's backline, the Spanish giants are still expected to recruit a new centre-back, especially as they are mindful that Antonio Rudiger and Alaba are now in their 30s.

Saliba's 'private' stance over Arsenal future revealed

Saliba has been linked with a potential move to the Spanish capital following previous speculation that he is keen to join Real Madrid this summer.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Saliba has told Arsenal in 'private' that he wants to stay with the club despite being a possible target for Real Madrid.

Saliba's stance represents a massive boost for Arsenal, especially as he is viewed as an 'absolutely crucial player' by Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta, who is expected to be named the club's new sporting director.

Romano also states that Real Madrid have made no approach over a deal to sign the France international in the summer transfer window.

What has Saliba said publicly about his future?

Saliba's private stance ultimately reiterates what he has said publicly after he spoke to reporters about his future in a pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday's clash with PSV.

The centre-back insisted that he was "happy" in North London, although he admitted that talks have not begun over a new Arsenal contract.

"Not yet, because there is some years (left), so there is no rush at the minute," Saliba said. "I'm happy here, that's it.

"I want to win big things with Arsenal. If you leave this club without winning anything the fans will forget about you. I want to win big things here."

Saliba still has over two years left to run on his current deal which will expire at the end of the 2026-27 season.

The defender's current focus will be on Sunday's Premier League clash against London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates.
