A Premier League club are allegedly viewed as the new favourites to secure a deal for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz during the summer transfer window.

Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz is allegedly moving closer to a potential transfer to Nottingham Forest.

Despite signing for the Serie A giants from Aston Villa in a £42.5m deal last summer, Luiz has failed to make an impression in Turin.

Having also only made 45-minute appearance at the recent Club World Cup, it is clear that the Brazil international's future lies elsewhere.

There have been no shortage of suitors in the Premier League courtesy of his previous exploits for Villa, where he was a key player in the engine room.

Nevertheless, as per Tuttosport, it appears that Forest have a major advantage in their efforts to win the race for the 27-year-old.

Why are Nottingham Forest favourites for Douglas Luiz?

The report says that agent Kia Joorabchian is due to make the trip to England to hold discussions with a number of Premier League clubs.

However, it is suggested that Edu Gaspar, Forest's new sporting director, could play a key role in getting a deal over the line.

Edu was previously keen in signing Luiz for Arsenal when he held a similar role at the Emirates Stadium in recent seasons.

Luiz is said to have already rejected a move to both of Fulham and Leeds United, while he has not given the green light to a transfer to Everton.

As such, Forest seemingly have an opportunity to present a proposal to Luiz, who may also be attracted by participating in the Europa League or, if Crystal Palace win an appeal, the Conference League.

Juventus are allegedly prepared to accept a season-long loan agreement if it comes with the obligation to buy next summer.

Other factors in Forest's favour

Forest have not been shy in acquiring talent from Brazil with Jair Cunha and Igor Jesus recently arriving from Botafogo.

With Danilo having moved in the opposite direction in a separate deal, there is a space in the squad for another central midfielder.

The presence of Murillo and Portuguese-speaking head coach Nuno Espirito Santo can also only play into Forest's favour.
