Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Scottish League Cup clash between St Johnstone and Raith Rovers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

St Johnstone will be aiming to make it three straight wins in the 2025-26 Scottish League Cup when they continue their campaign with a clash against Raith Rovers on Tuesday night.

The hosts are currently second in Group F, boasting six points from their two matches in the competition, while Raith Rovers are third, having picked up three points from their opening two games.

Match preview

St Johnstone were relegated from the Scottish Premiership last season, finishing down in 12th spot in the table, with a disappointing campaign seeing them pick up just 32 points from 38 matches.

The Saints are therefore preparing to feature in the 2025-26 Scottish Championship campaign, but their immediate focus is on the Scottish League Cup, with two wins being posted thus far.

Indeed, Simo Valakari's side opened their challenge with a 3-1 success over East Kilbride on July 12, before posting a 1-0 victory over Inverness in the competition last time out, with six points leaving them second in Group F, level on points with East Kilbride, who have played a game more.

St Johnstone actually won the Scottish League Cup in 2020-21, so they know what it takes to triumph, and the home side are in a strong position in the section ahead of their clash with Raith Rovers on Tuesday night.

Barry Robson of Raith Rovers on July 15, 2025

The visitors, meanwhile, are third in the section, boasting three points from their opening two matches.

Raith Rovers started their 2025-26 Scottish League Cup with a 5-1 victory over Elgin on July 1, but they were then beaten 4-2 by East Kilbride last time out, so Barry Robson's side will be looking to bounce back here.

The Rovers also play their football in the Scottish Championship, finishing fifth in the second tier last term, while like St Johnstone, the team have enjoyed success in the Scottish League Cup.

Indeed, Raith triumphed in the final of the 1994-95 competition, incredibly overcoming Celtic in the final, and a victory over St Johnstone would put them in an excellent spot when it comes to potentially reaching the next round.

We say: St Johnstone 2-1 Raith Rovers

We are expecting this to be a close match, and both sides will be confident of picking up a positive result. However, we believe that home advantage will allow St Johnstone to secure all three points.
