Motherwell will be aiming to make it four straight wins in the 2025-26 Scottish League Cup when they welcome Greenock Morton to Fir Park on Tuesday night.

The home side are currently top of Group G, boasting eight points from their three matches in the competition thus far, while Greenock Morton are second, picking up six points from their two fixtures.

Match preview

Motherwell opened their 2025-26 Scottish League Cup challenge with a 2-2 draw against Clyde, before triumphing in the subsequent penalty shootout, allowing them to gain any extra point.

The Well have not needed penalties to triumph in their last two matches, though, beating Peterhead 2-1 and Stenhousemuir 1-0 to move onto eight points in the section, which has left them at the summit.

Jens Berthel Askou's side will be looking to book their spot in the next round of the tournament before turning their attention to the start of their 2025-26 Scottish Premiership campaign.

Motherwell have the small matter of a clash with Rangers on the opening weekend of the new campaign, and they will be bidding to make the perfect start under their new manager.

The Well have won the Scottish League Cup on one previous occasion, triumphing in 1950-51, while they were also finalists in 1955, 2005 and 2018.

Greenock Morton Manager Dougie Imrie on May 16, 2025

Greenock Morton, meanwhile, are second in Group G, having picked up six points from their two matches in the tournament, beating Peterhead 4-2 before recording a 3-0 victory over Stenhousemuir.

This will be a tough test for the visitors, who play their football in the Scottish Championship, ending last season in sixth position, claiming 48 points from 36 matches.

Dougie Imrie's side will take on Clyde in their next League Cup fixture after this one, before turning their attention to the start of their Scottish Championship campaign, opening against Dunfermline on August 2.

Greenock Morton have managed to bring five new players to the club this summer, including Kris Moore from Leeds United, while Jackson Longridge has also made the switch from Hamilton Academical.
