Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says that the club 'know what they want to do' during this summer's transfer window.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has said that the club 'know what they want to do' during this summer's transfer window following a disastrous 2024-25 campaign.

The Red Devils are down in 16th spot in the Premier League table, only picking up 39 points from 37 matches, while they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Man United are planning to be active during the summer transfer market, with Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Matheus Cunha and Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap leading targets for the club.

There will also be a host of outgoings, with Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund potentially all leaving Old Trafford.

Amorim, speaking during his press conference on Saturday, said that his side are focused on Sunday's Premier League game against Aston Villa, but the Red Devils 'know what they want to do' ahead of next season.

Cunha, Delap are Man United targets this summer

"We have this game against [Aston] Villa and we need to focus on that it is not over. We want to finish in a good way in front of our supporters.. Then after we will assess the squad. We know what we want to do. We will deal with that when the season is finished," the Portuguese told reporters.

"In this moment I am really glad we arrived six months before we started a new season. I think we will avoid a lot of mistakes in the next season. Now is the time we can use all thay suffering to change things in the summer. It is not just the players. There are a lot of things to change. We have suffered a lot but I am really glad I arrived six months ago because it will help me in the next season.

"It is not about windows. Sometimes we don't know. Things can change fast but to reach the kind of level we need to be at Man Utd will take time. I don't know how many windows or years we need to reach that point but we can improve, that is clear."

Amorim opens up on "really tough" Europa League final defeat

Addressing the Europa League final defeat, Amorim continued: "It was really tough, it still is really tough. I think it was harsh for us to lose that game, I think we were the better team and we created more chances.

"We suffer a goal near the half-time and try everything in the second half, but it was really hard because like I said before the match, if you don't win the final, it's really harder to deal with that.

"It's really hard, I will not try to convince you otherwise, it's been a tough season, but we had that hope we could win something and that could help us to finish the season in a different way.

"The way we can get up is to focus on the next game, to finish in a good. When you start thinking about the future and the squad, a new season is going to start and we will start with new ambitions and try to do better."

Man United can finish 14th in the table with a victory on Sunday afternoon, but the Red Devils would be relying on the teams around them dropping points, while they could end the season in 17th.
