Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly offers a joyous reaction to the news that the Gunners have reached a verbal agreement to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.

Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly has been filmed reacting to the news that the Gunners are on the verge of signing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Following weeks of negotiations and struggles with their Portuguese counterparts, Arsenal have finally made the critical breakthrough, reportedly reaching a verbal agreement with Sporting for the signing of Gyokeres.

The 27-year-old will cost the Gunners an initial €63.5m (£55.2m), potentially rising to €10m (£8.7m) in add-ons, the structure of which were holding up the deal for over a week.

However, Arsenal and Sporting appear to have finally settled on a plan for the performance-related bonuses, and Gyokeres has already given the green light to a five-year contract in North London.

As sporting director Andrea Berta finalises the deal, Mikel Arteta and his squad are currently out in Singapore gearing up for their first official match of pre-season against AC Milan on Wednesday.

News soon filtered through to the players that Gyokeres was arriving, and Lewis-Skelly was filmed by fellow youngster Josh Nichols reacting to Fabrizio Romano's 'Here we go' post.

In the six-second clip - which was posted on Nichols's private Instagram story - a beaming Lewis-Skelly turned his phone around to show the camera the journalist's announcement, before copying Gyokeres's trademark celebration.

Lewis-Skelly and Gyokeres are sure to be starting regularly for Arteta's side in the 2025-26 campaign, as the latter is expected to become the Spaniard's first-choice number nine straight away.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion man follows Noni Madueke, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard to the Emirates, and he rejected interest from Manchester United, Juventus and Saudi Arabia to join Arsenal.

Gyokeres departs Sporting with a sensational record of 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Green and Whites in all tournaments, including a staggering 54 strikes in 52 matches in 2024-25.

When might Gyokeres make his Arsenal debut?

If all goes to plan, Gyokeres - who is extremely keen to get going in North London - should undergo his Arsenal medical within the next 24 hours before flying out to join the rest of the squad in Asia.

Wednesday's friendly against AC Milan will of course come too soon for the Sweden international, although the clash with Newcastle United on Sunday may be viable depending on how quickly he is integrated.

However, if the battle with the Magpies is also out of the question, Gyokeres's first unofficial Arsenal appearance could come against none other than North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong on July 31.

Gyokeres will fly out to the Far East shortly after fellow new signing Cristhian Mosquera, who boarded a flight to Singapore earlier on Tuesday ahead of his announcement.
