Feyenoord reportedly set the wheels in motion regarding the potential appointment of an Arsenal legend as their new head coach.

Feyenoord are reportedly pushing to secure Arsenal legend Robin van Persie as the club's new head coach.

On Tuesday evening, the Dutch giants pulled off one of their most memorable results in recent memory as they edged out AC Milan to reach the last 16 of the Champions League.

However, Feyenoord have been far less impressive in the Eredivisie, currently sitting 14 points off the pace in fourth position in the standings.

After Brian Priske was sacked last week, Pascal Bosschaart has since been in interim charge, but it appears that work is being undertaken behind the scenes to pull off a notable managerial coup.

Feyenoord want Van Persie

According to 1908.nl, club officials are pushing to bring in Van Persie as their new head coach.

The former forward is best known for his legendary stint at Arsenal and winning a Premier League title with Manchester United, scoring a combined total of 190 goals.

Nevertheless, it was with Feyenoord where Van Persie started and finished his professional career, making a 123 appearances across two stints at De Kuip.

Van Persie - now 41 years of age - is currently in charge of Heerenveen, who sit in ninth place in the Dutch top flight in what is his first senior head coach role.

That said, he spent several years in various roles with the academy setup at Feyenoord prior to getting a chance with Heerenveen.

Although negotiations will be required to appoint Van Persie, it is suggested that his current employers will likely give the green light.

Furthermore, it is alleged that former Manchester United assistant Rene Hake is in line to work with Van Persie.

Hake, who was manager of Go Ahead Eagles before moving to Old Trafford in 2024, is reportedly ready to take the opportunity.

The 53-year-old left United when Erik ten Hag was sacked in October.
